Interceptor Brake Levers

The Interceptor Cross Brake Lever is designed to act as a secondary brake lever for road bar set-ups. You can still have conventional aero levers set up at the drops, but with these installed you have the option of braking from the tops of the bar. They are compatible with most cantilever-style brakes and road bike brakes. The Interceptor is CNC'd out of aluminum alloy and features a Teflon bushing to reduce lever slop.

Installation Instructions: IMPORTANT: For best results have this component installed by a professional bike mechanic. This is a relatively new concept in bike components, so even a seasoned home bike mechanic may have difficulties. Improper installation can damage your handlebars, result in poor and even dangerous braking. Do not use these on mountain bike bars. Do not use these with linear-pull brakes. Please take it to a professional bicycle mechanic if you have any doubt on how to properly set up this component.

1. Remove bar tape, Aero-style Brake Levers/Shifters and brake cables. It's a good idea to mark or measure where the Aero Brake Levers/Shifters were, so that they can be re-installed to the original position. Or, you can install them one side at a time, then match them up. Remove all tape, so the levers slide on easier.

2. Check the Interceptor's clamp for any burrs or sharp edges. Sand them down before installing the lever.

3. Remove the pinch bolt from the Interceptor Lever and carefully slide the lever onto the bars. Slide the lever all the way up to the bulge. Grease the threads of the bolt and loosely install the bolt. Adjust the lever so that it is roughly in the final position that you want it.

4. Re-install the Aero-style Brake Lever/Shifters following instructions provided by their manufacturer.

5. Cut a section of housing to fit from the Aero Brake Lever/Shifter to the Interceptor Lever. Cut it a little bit longer, so that it can be carefully trimmed to fit exactly. Grinding the ends of the housing so that they are smooth and flat will result in superior braking.

6. Cut a second piece of housing to fit from the Interceptor Levers to the cable stop or hanger. On smaller bikes the housing for the front brake may have to be routed over the bars. This will give the housing a smooth transition and will result in less drag on the cable. Experiment with the best routing.

7. Fine tune your ideal lever position. Tighten pinch bolts on the Interceptor Levers. Be careful not to overtighten or strip the bolts.

8. Install brake cable. Tape cable and housing to the bars with electrical tape. Check cable action at all four levers for drag.

9. Install the handlebar tape.

10. Take the set-up out for a test ride in an area you can safely ride and stop in case something went wrong. ALTERNATIVE USES: The Interceptor can be used as a stand-alone brake lever; such as for a front brake for a fixed gear track bike. Use your imagination, but please also use your common sense.
